Coaching

my offerings:

In my role as a coach, I offer guidance, mentoring, and support. I don’t give medical advice, and I don’t diagnose, treat, or assess a client’s mental health. While I draw on my education and experience in physical therapy, I am no longer a practicing physical therapy clinician. I will do my best to connect you with the best resources that are appropriate for your needs if you require something that is outside my scope of practice.

Mental health therapists and psychiatrists are the people you typically see for diagnosing and treating mental health issues and, in some cases, prescribing medication. They use a traditional "top-down" approach, like talk therapies, to help process thoughts and emotions. Somatic therapy takes a different route with a "bottom-up" approach. It focuses on the body's role in holding and releasing anxiety, stress, and trauma.

a note about scope of practice:

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MENTAL HEALTH THERAPY AND SOMATIC THERAPY?

Physical therapy addresses functional limitations and pain through use of exercises as well as treatment modalities such as electrical stimulation, ultrasound, and scar massage. Somatic therapy is a body centered therapy that uses the mind-body connection to help reduce trauma-induced symptoms, anxiety, and tension present in the body.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PHYSICAL THERAPY AND SOMATIC THERAPY?

WHAT is SOMATIC THERAPY?

The term 'somatic' refers to the physical body. Somatic therapy focuses on the dynamic relationship between mind and body. Often, pain, anxiety, and trauma-induced responses lead to a disconnection from our physical selves, our sense of safety, and our overall sense of well-being. The goal of somatic therapy is to reestablish this fundamental connection and enhance our well-being.
